Alexis Renae Garcia is a South Texas native. She was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and went to high school in Edinburg, Texas. In 2014, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a concentration in Statistics at Columbia University in New York City.
Afterward, she was a paralegal at a securities litigation and class action boutique plaintiff-side law firm in Manhattan for a year before attending Cornell Law School. During law school, Alexis interned at LatinoJustice PRLDEF non-profit organization fighting for minority civil rights and was a summer associate at Milbank Tweed, Hanley & McCloy LLP. She was the President of the Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA), President and Founder of the Second Amendment Debate Club, and an editor on the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy.
Much of her time was spent in the Farmworker Legal Assistance Clinic where she handled immigration and employment matters on behalf of migrant farmworkers, including representing clients in immigration court asylum hearings. She was also a member of the Federal Indian Law Disenrollment Clinic under the supervision of Professor Gerald Torres, where she helped draft a complaint filed in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe against the Department of the Interior and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
After graduating law school in May 2018, Alexis was selected to serve a one-year term clerkship with Federal Magistrate Judge Elizabeth S. Chestney in the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division from September 2019 to September 2020. Upon completion of her federal clerkship, Alexis joined Watts Guerra in September 2020. She is licensed to practice in federal court in the Western and Southern Districts of Texas. Alexis’s practice focuses on plaintiff-side personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, and mass torts.
In her free time, Alexis enjoys hiking, fishing, gardening, and spending time with her family and her pets.
